The Edge of the Wold

Norwegian blue

Our first sighting of the Norwegian coast, in the early morning as we approached the small port town of Alesund. This was how I remembered Norway from a trip 30 years ago: light shafting through clouds and blue mountains framing fjords and peppered with snow.

We had a few hours to explore the town, teaming up with Steve and Pam to ascend the 418 steps to the old Nazi lookout over Alesund that is now a cafe with astounding views back to the toy town buildings and the Marco Polo moored in the bay.

This is the first of the holiday backblips to go on, at this rate it could be several weeks before they are all loaded. Though Alesund was one of the better days for light and photography.
