Fewston Church

A lovely sunny morning, but a very cold wind and rain expected later.

This is a Parish Church of a fairly large area on the outskirts of Harrogate. The tower was built in the 14th century, the bell ringing chamber added about 1800.

In 1696 a fire destroyed the old medieval church, all except for the tower. The church was rebuilt in 1697 and is one of the very few seventeenth century churches in Yorkshire.

The Church Parish extends over a wide area, a scattered community which is now populated very thinly, covering hamlets with wonderful names such as Timble Great, Timble Little, and Blubberhouse to name but a few.

I shall have to find out when the church is open to see the interior.
