The Prosecco Tree

I am working my way through a fascinating book in which the author, Thomas Pakenham, gives an account of 'Meetings with Remarkable Trees'. I began to think of the trees around here and they don't seem particularly remarkable. But the landscape just wouldn't be the glorious landscape it is without them.

There is one tree though. It is on an occasional walk we take where it grows high on a hill in some rough ground surrounded by fledgling Xmas trees. A deciduous oasis in a coniferous desert.

It represents how our daughters have managed to balance their urban existence with a day in the country with us. They take the dog for a long walk. Along with a bottle of Prosecco, some sandwiches and fruit though I am not sure whether either of these is disturbed.

They go to this tree and commune.

Not today they wouldn't.
