Scene & Heard

Over the past couple of years Annie and I (Chris) have been supporting a North London charity organisation Scene & Heard. In their own words they offer a unique mentoring project that partners the inner-city children of Somers Town, London with volunteer theatre professionals. Children usually from deprived backgrounds are given intensive, one-to-one adult attention, enabling them to write plays which are then performed by professional actors.

After a lunch at Kings Cross (a few photos of the fabulous station) this afternoon we've been to Somers Town (taking Annie's step mum with us) to see the latest collection of plays for students who have already put a play together before. Their brief this time around was to create a script with three characters where the story takes on a new direction when the third character joins the story.

The plays were excellent with the usual combination of slightly surreal perspectives on life from 10-12 year olds. A thoroughly enjoyable afternoon.
