Iconic New Zealand Cabbage Trees

Great walk on nephew's farm where we avoided all the cows and calves that were in for TB testing but we had to be careful where we went for the bulls were still out on the hillsides. These cabbage trees had lots of fallow deer under them until they saw us and popped down the hill into a wooded gorge. We picked loads of mushrooms and had a feast of them for supper before going down to visit my llittle blue penguin chick and watch for mum coming in to feed it after dark. We did see her arrive on the beach but didn't wait to see her come up the rocks for we didn't want to disturb them
