The Bridge

No not THAT bridge, the Humber Bridge!

We stopped off at the Humber Bridge Country Park on the way home. It was a sunny, if cold, morning so we decided to take Dylan for a walk on the bridge. Although a toll bridge, its free for cyclists and pedestrians. The distance between the two towers of the span is just under one mile, with whole bridge being about 1.5 miles. As such it was the longest single span bridge from 1981, when it opened, until 1997.

We walked to the southern tower from the north end and back. The fence between the walkway and the drop to the river is quite low, very easy to climb over, no wonder there have been 200 incidents of jumping since it opened (only five survived).

This was quite a sentimental journey for me; I have never been on the bridge, and it was one of my mother's favourite places to visit.
