Fairy tale ending?

This is one of a series of photographs that I shot for Thom’s final year project. In a nutshell he is researching whether memory and visual aids are more influential than the music that accompanies tableaux. So, it started with a fairy tale. What you take from a fairy tale, would it chance if the music that went with the picture was sad rather than happy? Take the marriage scene for example, would the view of the story change if the music was sad? It was then decided that the fairy tale was not the perfect medium for what he wanted to achieve…so the idea of what happens after the fairy tale ends came along. And then this idea of a post-Modern fairy tale.

So Laura, lying “dead” amongst the flowers (Forget-Me-Nots, I hope you’ve noticed the double meaning!), Thom, Ted and I went around Leicester and shooting the storyboard that Thom had created. A lot of fun was had, especially when people started following us around / watching / giving us compliments and tips on how to pose for the photographs! It was definitely the most interesting thing I’ve ever had to photograph…and a lot of laughs were had doing it. This photograph had an audience of around five or six people as I was trying to position Laura where I wanted her. This was the final result, although the colours and contrast are a little more bumped up in the final prints to give it a more fairy tale feel. It definitely looks better large!

The rest of the day was spent chilling with everyone afterwards, editing the photographs, followed by Thom treating me to a meal out to thank me for coming out to Leicester to get the photographs done for him.
