Just a wee church in Poland

Today, in Poland, we visited the open air museum in Zubrzyca, and like the open air museum near Riga we were treated to the sight of all sorts of traditional buildings which have been transported to the site from all over the region, in the hopes that they will be preserved for future generations.
Among the wonderful wooden structures was this church. It turns out that our bus driver was actually married in this church, and he had a tale total labour how his church ended up in a museum.

It seems that the people of the village where he was born and brought up in, actually revered their church, and were proud of its heritage. Indeed, there was a painting on the wall which they thought had miraculous powers. Along came a new priest for the area, and without any consultation, he sold the church to the open air museum for a lot of money. The villagers protested, but the deed was done.

The church was actually shipped out of the village in one piece - I imagine on the back for an enormous vehicle.

As the driver put it "One minute we had a church, the next it was gone".

T he guide told us that many pele came to visit the church from the old village, and some were upset at losing it, others were pleased that it would be preserved. My feeling was that if the villagers loved their church, they would ensure that it was preserved.

Ain't religion grand?

By the way, still enjoying this trip to an amazing country.
