Seven Seconds Away.

Our kids have a job to keep up with where we are sometimes. I can imagine their Whattsapp conversation:

'Mum' s gone to Iceland with the old Geezer.'

'Why didn't they go to Waitrose like they usually do?'

'Search me. Probably got a special offer on Gin.'

'Hope they're not spending all our inheritance.'

So we went to Geysir ( the Gusher) today, the original geyser. The big one hasn't erupted for years but this smaller one called Strokkur, the Churn, goes off pretty reliably every few minutes.

You do get a little bit of warning as a big bulge grows on the surface and then you know you've got a few seconds to get your picture.

Most people were standing just to one side of where all the water was landing, having intelligently deduced that they would have a chance of staying dry. There was a comedy moment when after a particularly big blow, a gentleman appeared from the hot shower of spray, absolutely soaked from head to toe shouting in a loud American accent ' Goddammit. My camera! '

How we laughed.
