Noor Inayat Khan 1914-44

Statue in Gordon Square, Bloomsbury.

Installed by the Noor Inayat Khan Memorial Trust. Unveiled by Princess Anne in November 2012. The first standalone memorial to an Asian woman in the UK and our only female Muslim war heroine.

From the plinth:
"Noor Inayat Khan was an SOE agent infiltrated into occupied France. She was executed at Dachau Concentration Camp. Her last word was 'LIBERTE'"

Noor lived in the square and it was from there that she left on her last mission, unable to tell her mother that she might not return.

What an amazing woman and what a waste war is.
