Drift

Time seems to slow to a crawl during a storm. Or, at least, people do! We are told to stay off the roads, school & community events are cancelled, and normal everyday habits are suspended. In the suspension of time, we drift...

...Which gave me time yesterday to obsess about the storm. I followed storm reports on Twitter, shared storm photos on Instagram, read first-person storm accounts on Facebook. And today - the day after - conversations all focused on how bad the storm was, and how glad we were not to have lost power or shingles or our lives.

Yesterday's blizzard-hurricane was a big storm, and I don't think I was the only one who seemed to revel in its bigness. Even as we are all complaining bitterly about the long winter and how we dread driving/shovelling/walking in the mess, we are busy bragging about how bad it was. I guess it's sort of a pity party, to which he rest of the world is invited.

Human nature is fascinating!
