Nothing Like The Sun

Part III of our voyage of discovery, Part 1 is Trails and Walks, Part 2 are the commercial places and spaces, and Part 3, is parks and recreation. So what does it take to build a new life in a new place. There is something to be said for never moving.

I loved growing up in Cape Town, I was too young to remember Durban, but I do remember Pontefract and the dirty black buildings covered in mining soot as they were in the early sixties. And running barefoot in the snow, until my parents caught me, and baked beans on toast, and canned peaches at Aunty Ruby's house in Dornoch, and Bill and Ben. And sneaking into the living room to watch z-cars on TV when we should have been in bed. My brother and I sneaked up and sat behind our parents chairs. And my short time in Jhb was fun, Kimberly and Potchefstroom were not high on my list and Observatory had it's upside. Rondebosch was nice, but Newlands was best. Singapore was great as Indonesia, Malaysia and so many other countries were right there, and the people were so nice, and Tanzania (Mwanza) was amazing, poor, but with possibly some of the nicest people we have ever encountered, and Zanzibar was a blast. London was great, south of the river in Streatham, a bit far away, Hammersmith Ok, Kilburn, not too bad, but Chalfont St Peter and Gerrards Cross were really nice. Great Chesterford turned out OK too, but too far away from everything, other than Cambridge. And Houston had some charm, but unbearably hot, and unreasonably flat, and there is no excuse to live where the tornadoes twirl. Maryland was stunning and had four real seasons. Kentfiled was close to the best as we lived fog free near Mount Tamalpais, just north of San Fransisco and thirty minutes form Reyes Point. And the Pacific Palisades wasn't all bad, and Topanga was tops, but we seem to have landed in the Pacific north East, in a most amazing place.

And at least I am home with no more works trips to Paris, Seattle, Holland, Belgium, and Burton-On-Trent. And after all those places i lived and worked, i wonder how we managed to visit Malawi and Botswana, and Namibia, and Greece, and Spain, and Luxembourg, and Germany, and Italy, and Ireland, and Canada, and oh, that's enough for one day.

Now I just need to know, how on earth are we going to get to see Hawaii and Costa Rica and Bulgaira, and Hungary, and China, and Vietnam and Columbia, And ......
