LIGHT!

We visit the David Zwirner tally today and saw the amazing Doug Wheeler light installation. Not allowed to photograph so this is the entrance to the room.

Wheeler calls the installation a “rotational horizon work" and it gives an extraordinary physical experience of space, focusing attention on the way light almost imperceptibly changes along the horizon as the earth turns.

Wheeler is not only an artist, but also a pilot and is fascinated by the illusory quality of landscape as glimpsed from the vantage point of an airplane. By mimicking the sensation of the earth’s rotational pull and curvature, Wheeler destabilizing the innate sense of equilibrium and imparting the feeling of moving with the earth towards an unreachable horizon.

Now soon off to the The Lion King :-)
