Happy birthday, Finland!

Today it's 92nd independence day of Finland. I and my fiancee usually celebrate the day by cooking and eating traditional Finnish christmas dinner. Besides christmas this kind of food is usually eaten also in pre-christmas parties.

In afternoon there's a military parade, this year at Riihimäki. There are independence day parties organized by cities and organizations all over the country. Early in evening Finnish Broadcasting Company shows the film Unknown Soldier made in 1955. The film tells about continuation war between Finland and Soviet Union (25th June 1941-19th September 1944) from a viewpoint of an ordinary soldier.

In the evening there's a traditional party on tv, where lots of celebrities are invited to the presidential palace. People watch hours when guests shake hands with president and her husband, commentators commenting on the clothes of the people. Then they do other boring stuff, like dance. I usually take a short look, but there's more interesting things to do than watch some dull elite party:)

P.S. The ginger bread house I blipped yesterday faced its end:)
