It's a Journey....

Rocky!

Many towns have their mascot or sculpture that characterizes their community. In Silver Bay, MN, Rocky Taconite welcomes you to town. The plaque reads "Symbolic of a New Era - The Transition of Taconite To Steel. Dedicated to those whose genius and labors are responsible for the utilization of taconite. For converting a useless rock into a useful valuable product and a huge new industry in Minnesota." Since the 1950's taconite is mined inland of here and hauled to Silver Bay where iron ore is extracted, formed into pellets and then shipped out through the Great Lakes.

We left home early this morning and drove up to Duluth and then up the north shore of Lake Superior. Did some skiing at Gooseberry Falls State Park. Was a beautifully sunny day. Out to hear some music tonight at Cascade Lodge. Very tired tonight.
