Meridian Malc

Day 2 of our London adventure and we made the brilliant decision to go to Greenwich - what a fantastic place! We absolutely flew along the river in the Thames Clipper and expected to be there for a couple of hours - we stayed the whole day and had to drag ourselves away. What an amazing place. The weather helped too!

This view over London is fabulous, the extensive museums were fascinating and we could have explored for another whole day at least. Next time!

But the highlight was the Planetarium, which rather neatly I knew about from The Dunbar Science Festival last weekend. Also the wonder of a planetarium has never left me since I visited one as a child - perhaps the Madame Tussauds one, which I think I was taken to as a child. Malcolm was completely bowled over by the show - "Wow" - and he's now dead keen to learn more about the stars. Fantastic!

Time to go home after the show and the boats were full (bloody tourists!). We discovered the Greenwich Foot Tunnel which is also amazing then walked straight onto the DLR at Island Gardens which took us rather spectacularly through Canary Wharf to Bank, then we went on to Kings Cross via the Underground. Malc had great fun on the huge escalators :)

Another fantastic day of travel and sights!

Journey home slightly marred by the train stopping for nearly an hour so we were late home, but 1st class train travel makes delays more bearable ;)

Politics: But, the weekend really made me realise that - by hell London is pampered. Great place to visit, and that's why so many people go there, but it fair makes you think. The UK see-saw is firmly tipped to one very concentrated end.

Having said that, we'll be back as soon as we can!
