Blow harder

A second day with poor wind conditions across much of the UK.

I was reading that among the Baltic states Latvia has the capacity to store gas sufficient for three years supply (for fear of less than satisfactory customer service from its main gas supplier). At a pinch it could instead meet the needs of Lithuania and Estonia as well for several months.

We in the UK have a very limited capability to store gas, relying instead on just-in-time flow from the North Sea. If we aim to improve the volume of gas we can store, and to produce that gas by surplus energy produced when the wind is blowing its hardest, then we would have a buffer to produce power when the wind is blowing less strongly.
