Misjudgement

He really came at this from the wrong direction, turned too early and completely totalled a traffic light.

What was impressive was that the City council had replaced the complete thing in under 3 hours. That's pretty good going.

I had a day of going "What?" a lot. I managed to solve a tricky wee problem and was feeling quite chuffed with myself. I told my predecessor over lunch and he told me the really easy way to do it by using the secret commands that aren't in the manual*.

I'm sure there's a folder somewhere that has millions of "How to make your life easy" bits of information in it. Just that nobody will tell me where it is.

Still at least I didn't destroy anything today.

*Only for the Very Interested who work with Xpediter on a Mainframe.

A colleague had a problem with a dataset that is set by Xpediter (she had a version that was deleted) and wanted to know how to change it to the new version so she could debug in Batch.

In the main screen in Xpediter, use the command DEF and you get taken to a menu you've never seen before. Select option 3 and then input the command RESTORE. That updates all the default Xpediter datasets to the newest version. Don't say I'm not good to you.
