Breakfast News

After the furore about the demand for a separate state in Andhra Pradesh, there was some interesting news and views to read. Personally I am least interested in politics. But the political drama, which is the favorite pastime of politicians, takes precedence over their jobs, which should ideally be to better the economy and put our tax money to good use.

Every morning I sit with my tea and cereal at the dining to read some 'news'. Today's news had some particularly humorous observations, post the protests during bandh in the state. One of the student parties in a university in the state have always resorted to vandalism given a chance. The police had been successful in chasing them out and restoring peace in the state. These elements just wait for opportunities to create unrest and disrupt normal life whenever they can. To sum up, this was an incredibly boring weekend with malls all shut down for fear of the perpetrators pelting stones and damaging property.Public transport was stopped or operated minimally to avoid damage. One of the bigger malls had covered the entire mall with a huge net to prevent anyone flinging stones at them. Even restaurants and grocery stores remained closed for fear of these people. There were police all over the city to try and maintain peace. The roads wore a deserted look. Employees were unsure whether it was safe to go to work or not. In effect, there was little or nothing to do except sit at home and wonder and gaze, and maybe watch few movies indoor, preserve your groceries, eat home food etc etc. We even nearly got into trouble as our car ran out of fuel mid way, as petrol bunks either shut down due to lack of fuel supply, or doubled their rates to make some big bucks.

So today, after all the agitation stopped, there were some funny incidents reported on the lighter side of all this. Apparently, the protesters who occupied the campus of the NIMS hospital and disrupted normal business, littered the place completely. They were a menace yelling slogans and consuming water from small packets which they threw all over the hospital campus. In other instances, some marriages which were scheduled to happen during these days had no option but to try and keep the celebrations going, but at a lower volume, to prevent the agitators from getting upset after hearing someone celebrating in their distress. In Indian marriages usually a lot of pomp and show and blaring music makes its way, but it was different during these days. People usually showers flowers on the bride and groom, but this time celebrations were maintained low key to prevent showers of stones from the protesters. :) Sounded quite funny.

Overall, except in few areas, things went off peacefully and we are all hoping to get back to normal life now. Quite rare for Hyderabad to be out of business due to such trivial wars, but things have been a little different this year.
