Aquamarine/Nanna K's Day

Timber!

The tree guys showed up today! :-) (In their beautiful old 1937 forest service boat.) And it was a beautiful, sunny, entertaining, and most productive day! Chris is an arborist so we learn a lot about trees. When we bought this place in 1990 we didn’t cut down a twig that wasn’t absolutely necessary. Now we know better what we should have done for a healthy, safer-near-the-cabin forest. So every few years it’s time to do a little more work. The main thing today was a large arbutus that was split into 2 main trunks , one over our screened porch, that couldn’t be cut when that was built. HERE It was tricky and a fir in front had to be gotten out of the way. All landed perfectly! phew!!! Big relief. Then we took 2 more smaller trees near the cabin that had heartwood mushrooms on them, a fungus which eats the heartwood out, making them very unsafe. So I chose to blip that one as it will fit the weekly blip challenge theme of VERTICAL. ( Doug Fir and Cedar trees grow so straight and so tall!)!! ALL VERTICAL WITH ONE ABOUT TO BE HORIZONTAL!!!! Exactly in the right place between lots of other trees. He also limbed a few things for me and my view! One day for 2 guys and it’s 3 weeks of work for the 2 of us to clean up! At least! H has a cold and has been hauling logs so I think he needs a sauna. .... The soup’s on the stove…..

I’ve put a whole bunch of Island photos from this week on flickr, including lots of raccoon antics and tree felling.....
