Victoria Station, London

This building is the 'Brighton' part of Victoria Station. It opened in 1860 and contains the 300-room Grosvenor Hotel. The little building on the left you can just see is the 'Chatham' part of the station which opened in 1862. Each was built by different railway companies in the heady days of Victorian railway competition.

Victoria Station became the London terminus where soldiers arrived back from France during WWI. There's a plaque on Platform 8 which marks the arrival of The Unknown Warrior back in November 1920. This body of an unidentified British soldier is buried in Westminster Abbey.

Building works to remodel the area immediately outside the station having been going on for some time.
