It's Grim Up North

Wray Castle, Servants Quarters

Wray Castle is a great place to visit, especially if you like to walk and/or have primary school children. It has been in the 'care' of the National Trust since 1929, but they have only recently taken back day to day possession of it.
They are slowly restoring it and it contains very little furniture, so, instead they have turned most of the rooms into playrooms for children with everything from a dressing up room to a microscope room, giant Jenga and I even found Duplo in the ladies loo!
The full size snooker table is available for anyone who wants to play and the local pub runs the cafe. As with most NT properties, dogs are welcome in the grounds. The grounds run down to Windermere and you can arrive by boat. Alternatively you can cycle there from Bowness by taking the ferry across the lake and then cycling northwards along the east side of the lake. Numerous walks start from the castle.
A really good, casual, day out and full of photo opportunities.
