Checking In

My landlord came to collect the rent. There were new tenants moving in and he asked whether I would prefer another room. I mentioned the noise from the street and that another option might be quieter.

"Noise?"
"Yes. There is the fire department across the street and three lanes of traffic -"
And for a brief instant he suddenly realized where the house was, the street, and the trucks with their sirens."

How it would be so much easier to pull a fire alarm and be enlightened.
