Public transport, Rivertown-style

I have to say I have rather a lot against places like the rivertown Tong-Li, where I was today.

The Chinese have an almost unrivalled capacity for taking something that is intrinsically beautiful and interesting and turning it into a meretricious tourist experience full of identikit tourist tat and driving out all that made it worth seeing in the first place.

In fact I would have wholly regretted coming to Tong-Li if it weren't for the very beautiful vistas down canalside footways, the astonishingly pragmatic and thorough Sex Museum (the history of sex section started with the sex lives of dinosaurs, believe it or not) and these wonderfully designed and painted tricycle rickshaws which must be survivals from the twenties at the latest and are still the main form of transport.

I also like the way the driver is perched on it, resting his calf muscles, whilst waiting for his next customer
