Bone Garden

On Edinburgh's Market Street the last few days have seen the usually locked vaults transformed into an arts space and has hosted The Hidden Doors festival. One of my friends, Tara Hodgson has performed her dance piece, Bone Garden.

Bone Garden tells story of a woman who is reflecting on her past as she reveals to the audience the contents of her trunk, which is a metaphor for her journey through life. It is a soul-searching journey through a magical, yet tragic, landscape, which she realizes is self created. As she struggles between the real and the imagined she demonstrates to the audience the contradictory nature of life itself. Through the use of movement, sound and images she conveys a sense of helplessness and yet, paradoxically, underlying hope.

I was mesmerised by the creativity and athleticism of Tara's performance as well as the superb musical accompaniment by Clare Simpson and Joel Sanderson. Unfortunately, this was Tara's last performance of Bone Garden at the Hidden Doors Festival, however, there are many other artists performing until it closes on 5 April - if you are close to Edinburgh do try and support artists pushing boundaries.
