persevering in the face of danger

Mrs Blackbird busily gathering moss for a new nest in our garden. Last week, we heard an awful screeching and squawking and went outside to find Mr and Mrs Blackbird swooping and scolding our cat Harvey, who was contentedly munching on a newly hatched baby bird. This was his second in as many days!

We finally found the nest and looked in to find a third fledgling that was already dead from neglect as the nest had been compromised.

We weren't very happy with the cat's natural hunting, and were worried that our friendly blackbirds wouldn't come back. But they are now busily building a new nest in a different (hopefully safer) part of the garden.
