Day 5

This morning we took a taxi to Gibara where we will stay for the next 2 nights in a Casa. The drive there was pretty uncomfortable, not only because the roads in Cuba are in pretty bad condition, even the so called main roads into cities, but especially the roads going to small villages etc., but Michael's car is a 1954 Chevy......the real deal and it was pretty nifty, but man the suspension was non existent! I had the back seat and felt pretty awful by the time we got to Gibara about 2-3 hours later. We did stop in Holguin for lunch.

Gibara is a small fishing village on the coast and was badly damaged during Ike in 2008. Seawalls demolished, roofs gone and in some cases, whole homes destroyed! But there was a great spirit of industry going on here. Lots of rebuilding taking place and it was a very beautiful little village. In the evenings, after a wonderful dinner at the Casa, we wandered around the very dimly lit streets as the local people sat out front to just pass the evening away.
