Rock stack

This rock stack stands at the mouth of the Pororari River near Punakaiki. It was part of the cliff but has been isolated by rockfalls and sea erosion. From some angles it looks like a head and shoulders with a top knot of bush for hair. The river rushes out around it and it gets pounded by the waves but makes a handy perch for the terns if you look closely at the right hand side.
