Looking over to Longniddry

His Lordship chivvied me into action early this morning for our first very short cycle run of the year along the highways and byways of East Lothian at a speed enabling us to stop and take photographs at regular intervals.

The wind which had been minimal earlier gathered force surreptitiously while we supped our tea and scones in a state of happy oblivion in Merryhatton Garden Centre, so that we came out to what seemed gale force gusts in our faces as we pedalled back to the car.
Fortunately we had it parked in Longniddry, which meant our challenge into the wind was short lived.

The countryside is beginning to wake up now that the weather is warming up. There are fat buds on the trees and a fuzz of green shoots on the brown tilled fields.
The rooks were calling from nests high up in bare branches, while with a whirr of wings a pheasant flew out from a hedge in front of us.

We were outpaced in an adjoining field by a hare who suddenly bounded across our path further on and disappeared on the other side of the road.
Some of the swathes of daffodils at the roadsides were beginning to look past their best and their cheery yellow was being superseded by that of the dandelions and the ubiquitous fields of rape.

Good to get home and be allowed to read the papers in peace.... HL is a hard taskmaster!
