close study

I was expecting to be mildly frustrated by the temporary repair-absence of my 105mm macro when down in the tree, dead leaf and thus detritivorous arthropod-infested countryside of the Lincolnshire flatlands later this month but was unable to get any closer to this relatively large woodlouse just this morning when it sat obligingly perfectly still for a couple of minutes on its way across the bathroom floor. Despite the failure of this picture to convey it it seemed a particularly large example (considering the relative lack of undersides of bricks or rotting logs in the immediate vicinity, though there'll be plenty of gill-breathing-friendly dampness in the room) and had elicited a small surprised yelp from Nicky when she first spotted it. If only I'd kept hold of the 60mm macro a little while longer, though that had to disappear to make way for other, less function-duplicating things. The latest estimate (if not just a made-up lie) could conceivably mean getting it back before heading south but such close timing would be extremely unlikely to be pulled off, as (I suspect) would getting it shipped back to a different shop from the one at which it was deposited. I have made arrangements to have something else to play with to make use of a week's worth of being in a markedly different environment from my usual one and might see about finding a cheap reversing ring somewhere in case I find any particularly interesting beasties or other smallthings.
