A Cucumber (Spider) Sandwich

Another rubbish day weatherwise. I have been togging in the rain.

The moth-flies that I photographed yesterday were struggling, getting stuck to the wet foliage. This green cucumber spider had the right idea and hid from the rain between some wild rose leaves.

They spin a small web between leaves and other vegetation and don't hide away but rely on colour for camouflage. They eat mainly flying insects, caught in their orb webs. The one I saw yesterday was grappling with a froghopper.
