fleeting visions

The view from here

In the golden age of sail, when the harbour was full of ships and shipbuilding, proud houses were built on top of every hill with a view of the sea. I don't know for sure, but I believe a ship captain built this house as well, an imposing residence, with a double set of stairs and two high gables at the very top. Time has gone by, the ships were eclipsed by trains, then trucks, then all the big industries followed the highway west to central Canada. But this house remains, not quite as grand as it once was, but strong and full of memory.
