An Artist's Life

Layer Cake...

There seems to be a layer cake of color...muted to be sure...as I travel toward Mill Creek and my first house here. It was on 400 acres of forested land. The fires of 2000 burnt most of the trees and bushes. The ferns were the first to come back; then the deep-rooted willows. The pines are no more because firs follow pines after a major fire. They're all taking their time to grow as we've been in drought mode for several years. This winter's snow will help immensely and I'm excited by the prospects of new growth and renewal this summer. We call summer in Montana "The 4th of July". It's a lovely day...usually.
