Legal Tender????

I was a bit confused when this Bristolian pound note crossed my palm today. After doing a quick bit of research on good old google I discovered the reason behind the pound note is mainly to encourage the community to support local businesses. A very creative idea although I do wonder how the success is monitored.


The Bristol Pound (£B) is a form of local alternative currency launched in Bristol, UK on 19 September 2012.[1] Its objective is to encourage people to spend their money with local Bristol businesses. As of September 2012 it is the largest alternative in the UK to the official sterling currency.
