Over The Border

St Hilda's is an area, which has been knocked down and rebuilt, only to be knocked down again so many times it is difficult to keep count. Nevertheless St Hilda's is where the town of Middlesbrough started life..Officially the town of Middlesbrough came into being in 1831 although obviously there were some buildings already in existence before that..
Middlehaven as the area is now known is The historic heart and driving force of a strong local industry, its hugely important dock gave birth to the success of Middlesbrough today. Whilst Middlehaven is taking leaps and bounds forward, the area still honours its heritage with the existence of the Transporter Bridge, Old Town Hall, Dock Clock Tower and Custom House ...

I left Middlesbrough in 1986 when i married my lovely husband and moved to the south coast so this visit to my family i am seeing the town and all the regeneration it has to offer and i must say i am impressed with it all.... I used to work along the river tees when i worked for Redpath Offshore and walking from the town centre 'OVER THE BORDER ' always felt edgy!!!
I managed to shake hands with the late Princess Diana and Prince Charles on my lunch break 'OVER THE BORDER.. i remember thinking OMG they may think i live here!!! living in this part of Middlesbrough would have been deemed desperate!!!!
This is now a fab area sporting the riverside stadium and the massive sculpture Temenos by the award winning artist Anish Kapoor .. You can check out more images here ...
I will try and catch up with all when i return home next week...
