The Fountain of Love

Edirne, Turkey

Edirne, being a meeting point of rivers and cultures was an important city of the Thracian, Roman and Byzantine civilizations and the capital of the Ottoman Empire for 92 years. In this work named the Fountain of Love, the ancient civilizations that existed in Edirne are depicted through the lion heads masks and the Ottoman period through the relief on the fountain. The young woman and man figures symbolizing peace and freedom represent the young Turkish Republic. (Edirne 2009)
