Happy Songkran!

Today is the first day of the Songkran Festival. This is the Thai (and Lao) New Year. Songkran derives from the Sanskrit word, which means 'astrological passage'. It is the most important and most famous festival in this country. This is the time to throw water onto others! Symbolically, we are at the end of the dry season and this is a way to call for the rainy season.
Most Thai people take advantage of this holiday to go back to their village and honor their elders.
This picture was taken at the entrance of my condominium in Bangkok. The bowl on the left hand side contains water mixed with flower petals. There is a smaller cup floating inside. So you must fill the cup and sprinkle it gently on the sitting Buddha on the right hand side.
However, if you decide to walk around, be prepared to get wet and dress accordingly! Actually, it is so hot right now (between 32 and 36ºC) that it is all right! :)
