A Compass Tale - Part II

I have photographed Ginger the Horse, through the glass compass panel on a previous occasion. Today the sun was bursting through the clouds just as I was passing. This image reminds me of the fabulous books by Philip Pullman, "His Dark Materials".

His Dark Materials is an excellent trilogy of novels, comprising Northern Lights, The Subtle Knife, and The Amber Spyglass. It follows the coming-of-age of two children, Lyra Belacqua and Will Parry, as they wander through a series of parallel universes against a backdrop of epic events.

Horses were intelligent animals that were mentioned in all three books. These animals were used for travel. Horses are sometimes stolen by Gyptian colonies. A horse was one of the symbols in the Alethiometer which meant: Europe, Journeys, and Fidelity.

I covered Ginger by Andy Scott in a Blip in 2012.
