Historic Counties Run - Day 1

Long standing subscribers may recall we have a couple of friends who own classic Triumph cars. Starting this afternoon and running through into tomorrow morning is the annual Club Triumph Historic Counties run.

This is a multi-discipline event. It started with an "auto gymkhana", a test of driving skill (on private property) this afternoon before all the teams were passed instructions for the road driving through the night. The whole event is points based. The instructions included a list of mandatory counties to visit, some optional counties (for extra points) and a long list of destinations, all coastal. This included lighthouses and piers running all the way from North Norfolk to Portsmouth (the starting point was Mundon in Essex). Points are available for each location visited, the challenge is to work out what you can visit before making the mid-way redezvous point on the M3 at 1am. At this point there will be a further list of counties and locations. Teams will drive through the night finishing at 8.30am tomorrow morning. The winning team will need to have collected the most points (photo evidence of each location required) and make the two checkpoints on time!

The route they have chosen is: Mundon (Essex) -> Southend-on-Sea -> Gravesend -> Hastings -> Eastbourne -> Beachy Head -> Brighton -> Worthing -> Bognor Regis -> Southsea -> M27 Services meeting point

Annie is in one of the cars, knowing her love of maps and driving she will be having a great time. I went along for a bit of mutual support and to see the gymkhana (where I had fun shooting the many Triumphs that had turned out for the event). I suspect there will be much to tell tomorrow.
