Prince Hal

I've been for another 'scoot' around Stratford-upon-Avon this morning. It was beautifully sunny, but still rather chilly. This is another of the statues from the Gower Memorial that stands on the riverside. This is Prince Hal, the Prince of Wales (soon to become Henry V) and son and heir of Henry IV. He was somewhat of an embarrassment to his father as he turned his back on the Royal Court to waste his time in taverns with low companions. This makes him the object of scorn to the nobles and calls into question his worthiness to become king. Hal's chief friend in living this low life is Sir John Falstaff. Fat, old, drunk, and corrupt as he is, he has a charisma and a zest for life that captivates the Prince. You can see Falstaff HERE.
