Ardmaddy

Ardmaddy Castle south of Oban has one of my favourite gardens, though it’s not grand. It has a lovely productive walled garden which even at this time of year is full of colour. This image is one of the garden doors which leads out onto the woodland walk, where even the tree bark has amazing colours.

The original tower house dates from the 15th century when it was lived in by the MacDougalls of Raera. It’s been through many hands and various additions since then, but currently 6 members of the same family, the Struthers, are working together to diversify and keep the castle and lands viable.

We're having family visitors for a couple of days, so I may be late posting and commenting. Catch up at the weekend.
