LUMBERJILL

Unveiled in November last year, this shows part of yet another magnificent sculpture by Ray Lonsdale – a specialist in metalwork. I have blipped some of his work before, one being here.

It commemorates the Women’s Timber Corp. They were called Lumberjills and carried out heavy and arduous work in the forests of the UK.

The sculpture, entitled Pull Don’t Push, is 5 metres long and 3 metres high. It shows two lumberjills working in the forest. The inscription reads :

Yes you are very clever
Now pack in and get down.
You are here to be a lumberjill,
Not a circus clown.

We need to get a move on
And the blade bites if you rush.
And for the love of God remember
To pull and never push !
