Miramare castle

Built for Archduke Ferdinand Maximilian and his wife, Charlotte of Belgium, who lived there briefly before leaving for assassination as Emperor of Mexico, the castle is a real gem with great sea views. One wing was occupied by the fascist Duc d'Aosta in the 1930s and retains his Rationalist furnishings.

Had a nice walk down to the castle and back up then walked to the ugly modernist sanctuary above the sea and down into the world's most voluminous cave. A good day!
