Another sunny day out

Sorry but I have done another collage.
I wanted to show the many different views of our day out.

Went over to Wheldrake Ings near York.
Last time we visited on the 9th January it was mainly under water.
Today however it was back to normal, and we had a nice walk along the river and down to the hides.

Beautiful white blossom of the black thorn looked stunning in the bright sunlight.

We then had lunch at the Drovers Arms in Skipwith.
A pub we found on our last visit, and still as good.

Then a walk round part of Skipwith Common, which is a favourite place of ours.

This is one of Natural England's newest reserves and covers 274 hectares.
During world war two this used to be an airfield where Halifax bomber crews trained. You can still see the remains of the runways, and the bomber bays, which add to the atmosphere of this place.

Lots of butterflies about including many peacocks. ( just managed a photo)
Also saw a roe deer, but couldn't get a photo.
However the Hebridean sheep ( see top right) obliged. They have been brought in to help manage the bracken and heather, along with longhorn cattle, and Exmoor ponies. ( which we didn't see today)

It was nice to get away from the crowds, and have these places more or less to ourselves.

Another enjoyable day, enjoying the warm sunny weather.( While it lasts!)
