The Grewia

Fortunate a woman came over to where I was intent on this shrub to say "it is a grewia". She had never seen one before until this specimen.

Two or three bees were excited by something at the base of the unopened flower. The flowers are very small as you can estimate here.

Grewia is an interesting and diverse species that is widely distributed in its various forms and some of them threatened. The closest match to this seems to be grewia occidentalis. Wikipedia.
