Minster Lovell Hall

Yet again another day of painting furniture. I'd had enough by six o'clock and decided I needed a complete change of scenery, so opted for the ruins of Minster Lovell hall just a few miles away.

Unfortunately the 15th century manor house is now in ruins but the location is idyllic, situated by the River Windrush. It was once the beautiful home of the Lovell family for many centuries and is said to be haunted by Francis Lovell.

The story goes that when Richard III was killed at the Battle of Bosworth, Francis, who was a supporter of Richard, fled to his manor house and hid in a secret chamber. A trusty servant was the only person who knew the location of the secret hiding place and brought him food and drink. The servant suddenly died and the chamber became a tomb, where Francis starved to death. It is said that his moans can still be heard today.
Luckily we didn't hear him when we visited.

There is a medieval dovecot next to it and wonderful meadows that are ideal for walking the dogs.
