Illuminated Manuscript

We sampled the victuals of the café beneath the Royal Scottish Academy where, on the corridor wall on the way to the toilets, there is a display which includes, in a single frame, this rather nice pair of illuminated manuscripts.

They are not mediæval but date from 1896, entitled Two illuminated pages for 'Sonnets from the Portuguese' by Elizabeth Barrett Browning and is created by the prolific artist Phoebe Anna Traquair, in pen, ink and watercolour with gold leaf on vellum.

Look in large to see how beautifully detailed they are.
