"Almond Drupe"

My first entry on Blipfoto was on February 4 this year and was an almond tree in full blossom, this is the same tree, two and a half months on now in full fruit.
Amazing how well plants grow in this part of Axarquia. The soft, fuzzy almond tree fruit is called a drupe.
Prior to "ripening", the hull dries and splits, revealing the nut, within which lies the kernel.
There are two types of almonds trees, the bitter, used for almond essence, and the sweet almond tree, so if you are lucky to see a tree full of fruit make sure which it is as the bitter nut contains a lethal poison when not fully ripened!
