Day 108: Dogwood

The legend of the dogwood says, over 2000 years ago, there were few trees in the Middle East strong enough to build anything, except the wood of the dogwood tree. It was so thick and strong, it was used to make, among other things, execution crosses, including the one used for the crucifixion of Jesus. After the resurrection , it is said that all the dogwood trees in the forests of Jerusalem wilted and died, to be replaced by bushes bearing pretty white flowers, " each blossom looking as if it had been burned by the touch of a miniature cross."
