Jizou Statues

These are Jizou statues at Zojo-ji in Tokyo. In Japan, Jizou is traditionally seen as the guardian of children, especially those that die before their parents - including miscarried and stillborn babies. The statues are often dressed in bibs and hats to make them look more like children. At Zojo-ji they are additionally decorated with hundreds of windmills, which is especially impressive on a windy day.
